Residents across the Greater Cincinnati area are waking up to an unusually mild and murky Christmas morning, but meteorologists warn that this unseasonal warmth is the calm before a turbulent shift in the weather pattern.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington, today’s weather will remain significantly warmer than average, with high temperatures trending 15 to 20 degrees above normal for late December.
However, the holiday starts with visibility issues; the NWS issued a Dense Fog Advisory earlier this morning for western portions of the region, urging drivers traveling for holiday gatherings to exercise caution.
While Christmas Day will see spotty sprinkles and cloudy skies, forecast models reported by local outlets indicate a wet shift arriving Friday.
Forecasts show rain and drizzle likely Friday morning into the afternoon across central Indiana and Ohio areas. Rainfall amounts are predicted to remain light, generally around 0.10 to 0.25 inches.
