Walmart plans to invest more than $300 million in a new fulfillment center in Turtlecreek Township, creating more than 300 jobs in Warren County.
The Walmart fulfillment center will be located at 760 Encore Drive and will handle larger, non-sortable merchandise, including televisions, furniture and other oversized items.
The project was announced Sept. 28 by REDI Cincinnati in partnership with JobsOhio following Walmart’s purchase of nearly 100 acres in Warren County.
Walmart expects to create 315 jobs
The new facility is expected to create more than 300 jobs as Walmart expands its fulfillment network in the Cincinnati-Dayton corridor.
The Cincinnati Business Courier reported that Walmart expects the facility to employ about 315 full-time-equivalent workers by 2029.
The new jobs will add to Walmart’s existing workforce in the region and expand the company’s logistics operations in Warren County.
Karisa Sprague, Walmart U.S. senior vice president of fulfillment operations, said the facility will complement Walmart’s existing network and bring more products closer to customers.
The company expects the investment to help it deliver more items faster while supporting the growth of its next-day delivery network.
“Walmart has invested in Ohio for decades, with nearly 60,000 associates and more than 175 stores, clubs and supply chain facilities across the state,” said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “This latest investment builds on that strong foundation, creating new jobs and economic opportunity while strengthening Ohio’s position as a destination for advanced logistics and supply chain operations. We’re proud to support Walmart’s continued growth in Ohio and the long-term impact this project will have on the region.”
What will the Walmart fulfillment center handle?
Unlike facilities that primarily process smaller packages, the Turtlecreek facility will specialize in larger items that cannot be handled through Walmart’s standard automated sorting systems.
That includes products such as televisions, furniture and other oversized merchandise.
The facility will allow Walmart to position more inventory closer to customers throughout the region.
That could help shorten the distance some larger products travel before reaching customers while expanding Walmart’s fulfillment capacity in Greater Cincinnati.
Walmart will keep its Monroe facility open
The Turtlecreek project will add to, rather than replace, Walmart’s existing fulfillment operation in Monroe.
Walmart’s facility at 650 Gateway Boulevard in Monroe employs more than 200 associates and will continue operating, according to JobsOhio.
Together, the Monroe and Turtlecreek facilities will give Walmart additional fulfillment capacity in the Greater Cincinnati area.
The two locations also place Walmart’s operations along an important logistics corridor connecting the Cincinnati and Dayton markets.
Why Turtlecreek Township?
The new facility will be part of Encore Park in Turtlecreek Township, an area that has attracted distribution and logistics development because of its access to major markets.
Turtlecreek Township Trustee Jonathan D. Sams said the project will bring new jobs and strengthen the local economy.
Warren County Commissioner Dave Young also credited cooperation among the township, county, state of Ohio, REDI Cincinnati and Core5 Industrial Partners for helping bring the project forward.
The investment adds another major logistics operation to Warren County and reinforces the area’s role along the I-75 corridor.
Walmart’s growing Ohio footprint
The Turtlecreek project is part of Walmart’s broader presence in Ohio.
JobsOhio said Walmart has invested in the state for decades and has nearly 60,000 associates and more than 175 stores, clubs and supply chain facilities across Ohio.
For Greater Cincinnati, the new fulfillment center represents another expansion of Walmart’s supply chain infrastructure while creating hundreds of additional jobs.
The project also comes as retailers continue expanding fulfillment networks to move products closer to customers and support faster delivery.
When will the new facility open?
The Sept. 28 announcement did not provide a specific public opening date for the Turtlecreek fulfillment center.
However, local reporting indicates Walmart expects to reach its projected employment level of about 315 full-time-equivalent workers by 2029.
More details about hiring, operations and the facility’s opening timeline are expected as the project moves forward.
