Authorities declared a snow emergency early Tuesday in response to overnight snow and deteriorating road conditions across Hamilton County.
The emergency aims to limit travel and keep residents safe amid accumulating snow and icy streets.
According to the alert issued by FOX19 NOW, Hamilton County is under a Level 2 snow emergency. Many roads are hazardous due to blowing and drifting snow. Icy patches are expected as temperatures remain below freezing.
Under this level, officials advise residents to limit travel to essential trips only, such as work, medical appointments, or emergencies, and to check with employers before heading out.
The snow arrived late Monday and continued through the early pre-dawn hours.
Local news outlet WLWT reports that the bulk of accumulation happened between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Many areas received two to four inches of snow. However, some pockets reached up to 5 inches.
As the storm wound down around 7 a.m., road crews began mobilizing, but officials warn that untreated side streets and less-traveled roads remain especially dangerous.
Travelers are strongly discouraged from non-essential driving.
Visibility remains poor in spots, and snow-covered surfaces, especially side roads and untreated areas, are prone to slick spots and drifting snow. Authorities urge drivers to give plow crews space, reduce speed, and allow extra time for commuting if travel is unavoidable.
School closings
Local residents have already felt the impact.
Many schools announced closures or delays, and some businesses opted to delay opening as a precaution. Public safety and road-maintenance crews continue to work throughout the morning. They are treating major corridors first, and then clearing secondary streets as resources allow.
Officials also warn that cold temperatures will linger throughout the day. This will limit snow melt and prolong hazardous road and sidewalk conditions. For those needing to go out, such as essential workers or emergency personnel, the advice is clear: proceed only if necessary, and travel with caution.
As Hamilton County navigates this winter-weather event, residents are advised to monitor official updates from local news outlets, and local authorities for the latest advisories, changing road conditions, and updates on emergency levels.
