A powerful winter weather system has moved into the Greater Cincinnati area on Thursday.
This has been bringing snow and frigid temperatures that are expected to impact travel and daily life through the night and into Friday morning as Cincinnati winter weather proves challenging.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday, with accumulating snow likely across Hamilton County and surrounding areas. Meteorologists warn that slick and hazardous roads are possible during the evening commute and overnight hours, WKRC reports.

Snowfall expectations by neighborhood
Weather services are forecasting widespread snow accumulations across the Cincinnati metro area, but totals will vary by location:
- Most Central and Northern Cincinnati neighborhoods — One to three inches of new snow are expected as the first wave moves in late Thursday evening, according to National Weather Service.
- Greater metro and outlying suburbs — Forecast models and local forecasts suggest two to four inches could accumulate through early Friday in areas like West Chester, Liberty Township, and Fairfield.
- Heavier pockets, especially south of the Ohio River — Some towns, particularly in Northern Kentucky and south Cincinnati, may see three to over five inches by Friday morning, with certain spots possibly approaching the higher end of that range, WLWT reports.
- Saturday system potential — A second snow system approaching Saturday could add another two to over four inches, particularly affecting neighborhoods on the west and northeast edges of the region.
- The higher totals expected south of the river could significantly affect communities such as Newport, Bellevue, and Fort Thomas, where snowplow crews are preparing for deeper accumulation resulting from Cincinnati winter weather systems.
Conditions today and tonight
Thursday’s skies are mostly cloudy with temperatures hovering near freezing. Snow is expected to develop after sunset. It will steadily increase through the evening.
Wind chills will make it feel even colder, and motorists are cautioned to prepare for rapidly deteriorating conditions on major roads and side streets alike, NWS said.
The forecast continues to call for a second round of snowfall potential tomorrow as part of the Cincinnati winter weather pattern. This could further complicate Friday’s travel. It may bring additional accumulations before temperatures begin to fall dramatically.
Community and travel impacts
Local officials are urging residents to exercise caution as the evening commute begins. School closures or delays are possible tomorrow morning if conditions worsen overnight. Road crews are actively treating major thoroughfares. However, secondary roads may remain slick as a result of ongoing winter weather in Cincinnati.
This winter weather pattern is part of a broader system affecting the central and eastern United States. It is bringing cold air and snow across multiple states.
