Chris McDowell
Chris McDowell is a judge on the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas. Gov. Mike DeWine appointed him in August 2025 to succeed Judge Tom Heekin, who retired. A civil litigator and white-collar defense lawyer, McDowell practiced at Dinsmore & Shohl before a decade at Strauss Troy. He also served as prosecutor for Wyoming and Newtown. Before entering private practice, he served as an Army Judge Advocate General's Corps officer in Germany, South Korea and Bosnia. As senior defense counsel for the 1st Infantry Division, he earned the Meritorious Service Medal. McDowell is a graduate of Marshall University and the West Virginia University College of Law. He lives in Hyde Park with his wife and their three children. He is on the Nov. 3 ballot for the remainder of his term.
