Water rescue efforts are ongoing at VOA MetroPark.
Water rescue crews are actively searching a pond after reports of a potential person in the water.
Search continues at VOA MetroPark water rescue site
Emergency crews continued a water rescue operation in the early morning hours at VOA MetroPark. Authorities responded to reports that someone might be in the park’s pond, officials said, according to WLWT’s report.
Public safety teams from the West Chester area arrived at the park and began searching the water. This action followed maintenance workers finding items near the lake that suggested a person may have entered the water, according to local news reports.
VOA MetroPark, a popular park with a 35-acre lake and extensive trails, draws visitors for fishing, boating, and outdoor recreation year-round.
Crews search pond in water rescue operation
Officials confirmed that public safety crews were on the scene conducting a water rescue search at the pond, but as of the latest updates, authorities had not confirmed that anyone was in the water.
West Chester public safety responders deployed a boat on the pond to assist in the systematic search, officials reported.
The search was ongoing at press time. Authorities continued operations in the area of the lake, working to determine the presence of any person in the water.
VOA MetroPark: Community and location
VOA MetroPark, operated by MetroParks of Butler County, Ohio, spans hundreds of acres. It includes a stocked lake, dog parks, picnic areas, and walking trails. The park sits along VOA Park Drive in West Chester Township.
The park’s lake supports recreational fishing and boating, especially in warmer months, and is routinely patrolled by park personnel and local emergency responders during peak park hours.
Emergency response and public safety protocols
Water rescue responses involve specialized training and equipment. Fire and rescue units typically use boats, flotation devices, and other tools to conduct thorough searches in calm and open water settings like VOA MetroPark’s pond.
In similar past incidents, West Chester fire crews have responded quickly to water emergencies within the township. Moreove, from October 2025, a West Chester firefighter rescued an elderly man whose vehicle had accidentally driven into a nearby pond, according to a report by WKRC.
In that earlier incident, the man was trapped inside his car when fire personnel arrived. They took immediate action to pull him to safety.
Safety reminders for park visitors
Furthermore, authorities remind park visitors that water conditions can change quickly, especially during colder seasons when temperatures drop and wind or weather shifts affect surface conditions.
Visitors should:
- Stay clear of unprotected water edges during colder months.
- Notify park staff immediately if they spot an unsafe situation.
- Call 911 with the exact location if a person is suspected in the water.
Public safety officials often advise that even shallow water can pose risks without protective gear or proper rescue training.
What’s next in the water rescue search
At the time of reporting, authorities continued the pond search at VOA MetroPark. Park officials have advised the public to avoid the area near the search site to allow crews to operate efficiently and safely.
West Chester emergency management said updates would be released as soon as more information becomes available.
