Lockland High School has canceled its 2026 varsity football season because it does not have enough players to field a team, according to a statement released by the school district. 

The decision ends the Panthers’ season before the first game and leaves opponents scrambling to adjust schedules. 

School leaders said they expected participation challenges entering the season but hoped additional students would commit before practices and games began. After reviewing the roster and participation numbers, officials concluded that the team could not safely compete at the varsity level. Multiple Cincinnati-area media outlets reported the cancellation on Tuesday.
